The solar panels we fit, and why.
We fit three panel brands, chosen by our engineers for output, warranty length and the likelihood the manufacturer is still there in year 25: Aiko Neostar, JA Solar and Eurener. This page sets out what each is, what the warranties actually guarantee, and how we decide which one goes on your roof.
MCS-certified solar PV installer (NIC-600049) · We install across Birmingham, the Black Country, Worcestershire and Staffordshire from our base in Oldbury, and regularly travel 30 to 40 miles, Telford, Coventry, Shrewsbury and Stafford included. If you are on the edge of that, just ask.

Where a brand has published figures we have verified, they are listed with the source. Where it has not, we say so and the model and warranty terms go on your quote, not on a web page.

Long-warranty panels
What a 30-year warranty actually promises.
Two warranties come with every panel and people mix them up. The product warranty covers the panel as a thing: if it delaminates, if a junction box fails, if a cell cracks, it is replaced. The performance warranty is a promise about output: the panel will still produce at least a stated share of its rated power after a stated number of years.
The performance number is where brands differ most. Aiko guarantees no more than 1% loss in year one and 0.35% a year after that, so at least 88.8% at year 30. The median degradation rate across 1,920 published measurements in the Jordan and Kurtz review is 0.5% a year, which over 30 years lands closer to 86%. The gap sounds small; across a 4 kWp roof over three decades it is real electricity.
What a warranty cannot do is outlive the company behind it. That is the quiet reason we fit established manufacturers and not the cheapest import of the month, and why we register every system and keep the serial numbers so a claim in year 12 does not depend on your filing.
Watts per panel in the footprint your roof allows; the year-one and annual degradation limits; the product warranty length; and whether the manufacturer publishes a datasheet we can hold them to.
Solis string inverters where there is no battery, and Sigenergy, Duracell, Tesla hybrid systems where there is; see home battery storage.
Quote a brochure efficiency as your yield, state a warranty figure we have not read on the datasheet, or fit a brand because a distributor had stock that week.
The 0% VAT rate on installing solar panels and batteries in homes runs to 31 March 2027, after which it reverts to the 5% reduced rate. Under Schedule 2 Part 14 Class A of the GPDO (as amended from 27 August 2026) roof-mounted panels on a house are permitted development provided they project no more than 0.2 m from the roof slope and sit no higher than the highest part of the roof excluding chimneys.

“Solar panels and battery does as it says on the tin. Harj looked after us from start to finish and was always on hand to explain or help us with anything with the product, even a year later. Panels and the equipment look good. I would recommend this company.”

Panel brand questions, answered straight
Which solar panel brand is best?
There is no single best panel, only the right one for a roof and a budget. On a tight or partly shaded roof the highest-output panel per square metre wins, which is why we lead with Aiko Neostar there. On a large clear roof a well-proven tier-one panel reaches the same system size for less, and the saving can go into a bigger battery. We quote with the panel we recommend and show the alternative beside it.
What is the difference between a product warranty and a performance warranty?
The product warranty covers the panel as a manufactured object: defects, delamination, failed junction boxes, typically 12 to 15 years. The performance warranty guarantees output over time, typically 25 to 30 years, by promising the panel will still produce at least a stated percentage of its rated power at the end. Aiko, for example, guarantees at least 88.8% at year 30 with no more than 0.35% loss a year. Both matter; the product warranty is the one that pays for a replacement.
Do longer warranties mean the panels last longer?
They mean the manufacturer is prepared to guarantee it, which is a good sign but not the same thing. Crystalline silicon panels in general degrade slowly: the median across 1,920 published rates in the Jordan and Kurtz review is 0.5% a year. A 30-year performance warranty with a 0.35% annual limit is better than that median, and it is backed by a company you can claim against; the installer handling the claim for you is the other half of the picture.
Who honours the warranty if the installer disappears?
The manufacturer, which is why the brand matters and why we fit established manufacturers rather than whatever is cheapest this month. Green Tech Hub has been installing solar for more than ten years and we register every system, so you should not need to claim without us; but if you ever did, the panel warranty stands on its own, and your MCS certificate is the document that proves the installation.
