MCS-certified for battery storage and solar PV (NIC-600049) · RECC member · NICEIC Approved Contractor · We install across Birmingham, the Black Country, Worcestershire and Staffordshire from our base in Oldbury, and regularly travel 30 to 40 miles, Telford, Coventry, Shrewsbury and Stafford included. If you are on the edge of that, just ask.

In short

  • What it does: stores surplus daytime solar so you use it in the evening instead of buying from the grid at 26.32p per kWh and exporting for 12p.
  • Size: 5 to 10 kWh of usable storage suits most homes; more with an EV or heat pump. We size from your smart-meter data.
  • What we fit: Sigenergy SigenStor (modular, 5 or 8 kWh modules, five-in-one with backup) and Duracell Energy (Dura5, Dura16, Dura-i inverter).
  • Existing solar: yes, AC-coupled or DC-coupled depending on your inverter; your FIT or SEG payments are unaffected.
  • Safety: installed to PAS 63100 as BS 7671 A4:2026 requires for homes; MCS-certified battery installer.
  • Price: fixed, no sales visit; 0% VAT on the installation until 31 March 2027.

The honest arithmetic

Why self-consumption beats export.

Solar panels generate most around midday, which is when most households are out. Without a battery that surplus goes to the grid, and the best widely available export rate at the time of writing is Octopus Outgoing Fixed at 12p per kWh, or 16p at the 4pm to 7pm peak on Outgoing Prime. The electricity you buy back in the evening costs 26.32p per kWh under the Ofgem price cap for October to December 2026.

A battery closes that gap. Every kilowatt-hour you store and use yourself is worth the import price rather than the export price, roughly double, and it keeps being worth that whatever happens to export tariffs. That is why we tell customers self-consumption is the number to optimise and why we size batteries to evening use rather than to the roof.

The honest caveat: a battery the panels have already filled has nothing spare to cycle on a cheap overnight tariff, so we do not double-count arbitrage on top of solar time-shifting. The model we give you shows both separately.

IMPORT PRICE
26.32p/kWh

Ofgem price cap, electricity, 1 Oct to 31 Dec 2026 (Direct Debit, GB average). No VAT on household electricity to 31 Mar 2027.

EXPORT PRICE
12p/kWh

Octopus Outgoing Fixed, from 1 March 2026; Outgoing Prime pays 16p peak and 9p off-peak. MCS-certified install required up to 50 kW.

SOLAR INSTALL COST, WEST MIDLANDS
£1,778/kW

DESNZ mean for 0 to 4 kW systems in 2025/26 (£1,628/kW for 4 to 10 kW), a regional average across 21,961 installs, not a quote. Battery pricing depends on size: we give a fixed price.

What we fit

Batteries we install and stand behind.

We fit a small number of systems we know well rather than whatever is cheapest that month. Every figure below is from the manufacturer or its UK distributor; the exact model and warranty terms are on your quote.

Sigenergy SigenStor

A modular five-in-one system: hybrid inverter, stackable battery modules, an optional EV DC charger module, energy management and whole-home backup in one unit.

  • SigenStor battery modules are available in 5 kWh and 8 kWh sizes; a stack takes one to six modules, up to 30 kWh or 48 kWh depending on the module, and up to ten stacks can run in parallel. Source: www.senergydirect.co.uk/product/sigenergy-sigenstor-battery/
  • The battery uses 280 Ah cells in a five-layer stackable design with 0 ms switchover to backup (manufacturer datasheet, SigenStor Home). Source: www.senergydirect.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Datasheet-SigenStor-Home-1.pdf

Sizing

Evening use decides it

A home on Ofgem's medium typical consumption of around 2,700 kWh a year uses about 7 kWh a day, much of it after dark. That is why 5 to 10 kWh of usable storage covers most households and why an EV or heat pump changes the answer.

If you have a smart meter we model your half-hourly data; if not, we work from your bills and the house.

Existing solar

AC-coupled or DC-coupled

A battery with its own inverter sits alongside your existing system (AC-coupled) and suits older feed-in-tariff installs. Replacing the inverter with a hybrid and connecting the battery on the DC side is more efficient and suits newer systems.

Your generation meter, export meter and any FIT payments carry on unchanged either way.

Safety and compliance

PAS 63100, G98/G99, MCS

Batteries in dwellings are installed to PAS 63100:2024 as BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 requires. Up to 3.68 kW per phase is a G98 notification; a 5 or 6 kW hybrid inverter needs a G99 application first, which we submit for you.

Green Tech Hub is MCS-certified for battery storage and solar PV (NIC-600049) through NICEIC.
