For your home · Warm Homes Loan Scheme
Warm Homes Loan Scheme: solar panels & batteries in Sandwell & the Black Country.
The Warm Homes Loan Scheme opened to households on 27 October 2026. It is a UK-wide loan for energy-saving improvements to your home, and solar panels and battery storage are both on its list. The loan comes from a lender you choose. The work has to be quoted and fitted by an MCS-certified installer, and for homes in Oldbury, West Bromwich, Smethwick, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton that can be us.
Green Tech Hub is not a Warm Homes Loan lender and does not arrange these loans. You apply to a lender on the GOV.UK list of Warm Homes Loan lenders yourself.
We are a private installer based in Oldbury, not the government, a council or a lender. When you send the form, your details go to Green Tech Hub only, so we can prepare your installation quote.

Solar panels, a battery, or both, for a home in Sandwell and the Black Country. A written fixed price you can take to any lender.
The Warm Homes Loan, in short
- What it is: a loan for energy-saving improvements to a home anywhere in the UK. It is lender-led: a lender, for example a bank, provides the loan and sets its terms.
- Solar and batteries: solar PV panels up to £15,000 per home and battery storage up to £15,000, under the scheme rules.
- Who can apply: owner-occupiers, and private landlords borrowing personally, for a UK residential property. There is no income threshold.
- Credit checks: the lender runs its own credit and affordability checks and decides on the loan.
- Installer: the work must be done by an MCS-certified installer; you cannot fit it yourself. We are MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage.
- Rates: Rates and terms vary by lender — compare them on the GOV.UK lender list.
What it can pay for
The two improvements we quote for.
The scheme rules set a maximum loan amount for each technology. These are the two Green Tech Hub is certified to install.
| Improvement | Scheme cap per home | Green Tech Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Solar PV panels | £15,000 | MCS-certified installer (NIC-600049): design, installation, DNO notification and MCS certificate |
| Battery storage | £15,000 | MCS-certified installer: with new panels, or added to an existing solar system |
The scheme also covers heat pumps and a few other technologies, which we do not install: our MCS certification is for solar PV and battery storage only, so we will not quote for anything else under the scheme. Insulation is not covered at all. An EV charger can be included only as an add-on to solar or a battery, never on its own. If you already have panels, our guide to adding a battery to existing solar with the Warm Homes Loan walks through that case, and the solar panels and battery cost guide shows what systems cost in the West Midlands before you speak to a lender.

How it works
Four steps, and who does each one.
The lender handles the money and the installer handles the house. Here is the order.
- STEP 1 · YOU
Check you can apply
You own the home, with or without a mortgage, or you are a private landlord borrowing personally, and the property is residential and in the UK. The GOV.UK eligibility page sets this out; lenders may add rules of their own.
- STEP 2 · US
Get your MCS installation quote
We look at the roof, your electricity use and where a battery can safely go, then send a written, itemised fixed price for panels, a battery or both. It is the same quote whether you pay with a loan, savings or a mix.
- STEP 3 · YOU AND THE LENDER
Choose a lender and apply
Pick a lender from the GOV.UK lender list and apply to them directly. They run the credit and affordability checks and decide. Rates and terms vary by lender — compare them on the GOV.UK lender list.
- STEP 4 · US
We install and certify
Our engineers fit and commission the system, handle the network operator paperwork and issue the MCS certificate, which your export tariff also asks for.
Using other help as well? You may be able to combine a Warm Homes Loan with other grants or funding, but not to pay for the same improvement. On a low income, the GOV.UK Warm Homes Loan guide points to grant routes that may suit you better than a loan.
VAT on the installation
The 0% VAT rate on installing solar panels and batteries in homes runs to 31 March 2027, after which it reverts to the 5% reduced rate. That applies to the installed price on your quote, panels, battery and labour, when we supply and fit them together.
Stay safe
The government and lenders never cold-call to sell Warm Homes Loans or charge a fee to apply.
Turn down doorstep or phone offers, check any installer on the MCS register before you sign, and report suspected Warm Homes Loan fraud to WHLScounterfraud@energysecurity.gov.uk. We will never ask you for a fee to quote.
Your installer
A Black Country installer, on the MCS register.
Green Tech Hub (established 2015) is based on Broadwell Road in Oldbury, so West Bromwich, Smethwick, Tipton and Dudley are minutes away and Walsall and Wolverhampton not much further. Our MCS certificate, NIC-600049, covers solar PV and battery storage, which is exactly what the scheme needs from the installer for those two improvements. We are also members of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code and NICEIC-registered for the electrical work.
The house matters more than the loan. Most Black Country homes are semis with one clean pitched roof, which suits a straightforward array; the details for each borough are on our solar panels in the Black Country page. If storage is the priority, our home battery storage page explains the systems we fit and how we size them, and solar panels for your home covers the panels themselves.

“Solar panels and battery does as it says on the tin. Harj looked after us from start to finish and was always on hand to explain or help us with anything with the product, even a year later. Panels and the equipment look good. I would recommend this company.”

Warm Homes Loan questions, answered straight
Does Green Tech Hub arrange the Warm Homes Loan?
No. Green Tech Hub is not a Warm Homes Loan lender and does not arrange these loans. You choose a lender from the GOV.UK list and apply to them directly. We survey the house, design the system, give you a written fixed quote and install it as an MCS-certified installer.
What interest rate will I pay on a Warm Homes Loan?
Rates and terms vary by lender — compare them on the GOV.UK lender list. We do not quote rates or recommend a lender; the lender sets the terms and runs its own credit and affordability checks.
Who can apply for a Warm Homes Loan?
Owner-occupiers, and private landlords borrowing personally, for a residential property in the UK. There is no income threshold. The lender runs its own credit and affordability checks and may have further rules of its own.
Can a Warm Homes Loan pay for a battery on my existing solar panels?
Battery storage is one of the improvements the scheme covers, with a cap of £15,000 per home, and the work must be done by an MCS-certified installer. We are MCS-certified for battery storage and add batteries to existing solar systems as well as fitting them with new panels.
Does the scheme cover insulation or heat pumps?
Insulation is not covered. Heat pumps are covered by the scheme, but Green Tech Hub is MCS-certified for solar PV and battery storage only, so those are the two improvements we quote for.
Can I combine a Warm Homes Loan with other help?
You may be able to use other grants or funding alongside a Warm Homes Loan, but not to pay for the same improvement. Separately, installing solar panels and batteries in a home is currently 0% VAT, until 31 March 2027.
