According to research findings, solar batteries last 5 to 15 years. However, many solar panel users are forced to replace their solar batteries after a short period due to poor maintenance practices.  

Solar energy storage batteries are costly, so it is important to ensure you get a full-service life before replacing the batteries. Here are important tips on taking care of your solar battery to help prevent premature demise and ensure full-service life.

Limit Battery Count 

Although it is a great idea to string a few batteries to help increase storage capacity, prioritize keeping the battery number as low as possible. Extra batteries need extra connections. Each connection increases resistance in the circuit, which can easily lead to stray currents and uneven charging.

Routinely Rotate the Solar Battery 

It would help if you made it a routine to rotate the batteries within the circular to ensure maximum effective lifespan. Due to the uneven charging possibility, it is always a great idea to swap batteries regularly from the middle to the end of the string.

Due to these byproducts, there must be sufficient ventilation for the solar battery since hydrogen gas can sometimes be dangerous when it gets concentrated in an enclosed area. 

Equalize the Batteries

Equalizing the solar batteries entails more than rotating them using a string. Equalization refers to the controlled battery overcharging process to help maintain each battery. 

There is a possibility that the solar batteries in a circuit will charge unevenly, which might make some batteries not attain full charge. This can affect the battery life since it allows the plate’s sulfation. Equalizing the batteries will ensure each solar battery is fully charged.
